CAUV Program

The Current Agricultural Use Value (CAUV) program allows farmland to be valued based on the agricultural use of the land rather than its "highest and best" potential use, resulting in a substantially lower tax bill for working farms.

Who Can Qualify

Any Ohio property owner currently engaged in commercial agriculture may qualify for the program. An initial application may be filed with the Licking County Auditor's Office. For questions or additional information contact: Kim Cortright, Licking County Auditor’s Office (740) 670-5050

Other Qualifying Acreage

Other qualifying acreage includes land receiving compensation for land retirement or conservation programs under an agreement with the federal government.

The Conservation Reserve Program is a land conservation program administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA). In exchange for a yearly rental payment, farmers enrolled in the program agree to remove environmentally sensitive land from agricultural production and plant species that will improve environmental health and quality. Contracts for land enrolled in CRP are from 10 to 15 years in length. The long-term goal of the program is to re-establish valuable land cover to help improve water quality, prevent soil erosion, and reduce loss of wildlife habitat.
